As human beings, we naturally want to know that our life has significance and meaning. We want to know that our lives matter.

We want to know our purpose, why God created us and what we should be doing with our lives.

But sometimes we don’t have the answer to those questions.

And that can leave us feeling lost and confused.

So what should you do when you feel like you have no purpose in life?

In this article, I will share with you a few steps you can take if you’re feeling that way now.

What To Do When You Feel Like You Have No Purpose In Life

If you feel like your life has no purpose, take some time to do the following activities. They will help you to become more self-aware, get some clarity and eventually have a more meaningful life.

1) Ask Yourself Why

The first step is to ask yourself “Why do I feel like my life has no purpose?”

You have to get clear on what’s making you feel this way.

If you want to solve any issue you’re dealing with, you have to get clear on the cause so you can really address the problem.

So take some time to think about it.

If you like writing, then grab a journal and start writing out your thoughts.

If you prefer to talk things out then you can talk to a trusted friend or family member. Or you can record yourself on your phone and play it back.

2) Determine What A Purposeful Life Looks Like For You

The next step is to determine what a purposeful life looks like for you.

Ask yourself “What does a life of purpose look like to me?”

A life of purpose looks different for each individual. That’s why it’s important that you get clear on what it looks like for you.

Getting clear on this picture will help you to know what changes you need to make in your life.

It will also help you to know when you are walking in purpose.

For some people a life of purpose is one where they are making a difference. Many people want to know that they are making a valuable contribution to society.

However, the way each person makes a contribution to society will differ.

Some people will make a contribution through their career while others may do so through serving their family or volunteering.

3) Start Exploring Your Interests

The next step is to start exploring your interests.

You are more likely to feel like your life has no purpose if you are not taking action.

If you want a life of purpose, you have to take action.

You can only fulfill your purpose by taking action not by wishing, hoping or overthinking.

If you don’t know what your purpose is, you can start exploring your interests to find out what you enjoy and what you are good at.

Ask yourself “What am I interested in doing?”

If you are interested in a particular activity, start exploring it. That will help you to know how much you enjoy it and it will help you to get better at it.

  • Do you like writing? Start doing that.
  • Do you like capturing pictures of nature? Start doing that?
  • Are you interested in helping the sick or elderly? Start volunteering.

4) Use Resources To Help You Find Your Purpose

The next step is to use resources to help you find your purpose. There are several resources out there that can help you to get clarity and find your purpose.

You can learn a lot from others who have taken this journey of searching for their purpose. The lessons they learned will help you to get insight for your journey.

5) Remember That God Is Intentional

The final step is to remember that God is intentional which means that He made you for a purpose.

Even if you feel like your life has no purpose, the truth is that it has purpose!

God is intentional and He made everyone and everything for a purpose including you.

You have to keep reminding yourself that God took the time to intricately weave you in your mother’s womb. He was very intentional about every aspect of your life.

He has also given you abilities that you can use to live a life of purpose. And He has equipped you with what you will need to fulfill your purpose.

It’s up to you to use them.

He has good plans for your life. Ask Him to lead and guide you so you can fulfill the purpose for which He created you.
