If you have never heard the term “quiet time with God” let me tell you what it is. It is the dedicated one-on-one time that you spend with the Lord.
It is usually time that is set aside daily to read the Bible and pray. But you can do other activities during that time and this will help you to enjoy that time and avoid monotony.

Importance of Quiet Time with God
Have you ever wondered why it’s important to spend time with God? Well, one of the main reasons is that it helps you to know Him more.
Think about the close relationships you have in your life. This may be the relationship with your mother, father, best friend, sibling, spouse or co-worker.
How did you develop a close relationship with these persons?
Take a minute to think about it.
As you think about it, you’ll realize that the relationship grew as you spent more time together. It went beyond just knowing their name and their favourite colour.
You started to understand what they like, what makes them laugh and what upsets them. You started to realize that you have things in common and you became more aware of their character. You felt loved, cared for and understood.
The depth of the relationship is dependent on how much you know and understand each other.
And the best way to get to know someone is to spend time with them.
Therefore the importance of quiet time with God is getting to know Him as your Father and friend. The more you get to know God, the more you will trust Him which means you will have more faith in Him.
Remember faith pleases God (Hebrews 11:6).
Here are some benefits of spending quiet time with God.

What To Do In Your Quiet Time With God
Now that you realize the importance of spending time with God, let’s look at some things you can do. Here are 7 quiet time with God ideas.
1. Journal Prophetically
God wants to have a close relationship with us as human beings. He can communicate with you through various ways such as the Bible, dreams and through the Holy Spirit.
It can be quite beneficial to write down what the Lord reveals to you because you will have a written record to reflect on when necessary.
I know we normally think that we will remember everything but the truth is that we often forget the details as time passes.
During your devotions, take some time to meditate on the Bible passage that you’re reading. Don’t just read the Bible verses and close the Bible. Ask the Lord “How can I apply this to my life?” Then write whatever He reveals to you in your journal.
You can also journal after you have prayed. The next time you pray, I want you to sit in silence for about 2 minutes and pay attention to what comes to your mind. What stood out to you?
Write that down. You can then compare your revelation to what the Bible says to make sure your revelation is in alignment with Scripture.
Get into the habit of seeing prayer as a dialogue not a monologue. So practise to sit in silence after you have prayed during your quiet time with God.
Then take a leap of faith and write what you think the Lord is revealing to you. It may not be accurate but each entry song with Biblical evaluation will help you to discern the voice of God.

2. Reflect on Answered Prayers
Do you remember when you prayed for something specific and you got it?
Maybe you prayed one of the following:
- Financial assistance
- Healing
- Scholarship
- Job
- Car
- House
- Spouse
Do you remember how many times you prayed and how you expressed your deepest desire for it? Take some time to think about how you felt before the Lord granted you the desire. Reflect on the way how the Lord worked out everything.
As you reflect on answered prayers, take some time to praise Him for His faithfulness and goodness. You can praise Him with words and you can express your gratitude with dance.
You can make it even more interesting by using the alphabet to help you think about words that are fitting to praise Him. This is sometimes referred to as Praising God from A-Z.
Example
- A – God, You’re amazing, you’re my Abba, You’re awesome
- B – You’re brilliant, beautiful and boundless
- C – You’re the Creator, my Comforter, and you’re compassionate
3. Sit Still in God’s Presence
Sometimes, we may think that we always have to do something active during our devotions. But it’s okay to just sit still in the presence of the Lord and think about Him.
You can meditate on His creative power, His omniscience, omnipotence and His omnipresence.
You can also use this time to listen to what He has to say to you.

Have you ever wondered what is the will of God? Well, In 1 Thessalonians, it clearly says that it is God’s will for us to give thanks.
There are also many other books in the Bible that encourage us to give thanks to God. And you can start by making a gratitude list.

You can paint, draw or even colour while meditating on the Word of God or the attributes of God. You can start colouring by printing Bible colouring pages for adults.
6. Follow a Bible Reading Plan
Reading the Bible is a great way to spend time with God. As you read the Word, you will learn more about God, His character and His will. You will also learn several lessons that will help you on your faith walk.

7. Memorize Bible Verses
You can use your quiet time with the Lord to memorize and meditate on Bible verses. This will help you to remember what the Word says even when you don’t have a physical or digital Bible.
I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you.
Psalm 119:11 (NIV)
Do you have any area of life that you’re struggling with? Take some time to see what Scripture has to say and then memorize those verses.
If you memorize Bible verses, it will be easier to meditate on them throughout your day. And as you meditate on them, the Holy Spirit will give you revelation, understanding and He will show you how you can apply it.
Memorizing Bible verses will help you to:
