5 Ways To Spend More Time With God
Here are 5 ways to spend more time with God throughout your day. As you go through this list, you will realize that 4 of these ways can be easily done even if you’re busy.
I know how hectic life can get and how packed our schedules can become so I kept that in mind while compiling this list.
1) Go for a prayer walk
The first way you can spend more time with God is by going for a prayer walk.
If you’re someone who likes to exercise or stay active, you can pray while you’re walking or jogging.
And if you choose to walk, you can take the time to observe the trees and notice the different shades and shapes of the leaves. You can also listen to different sounds of nature like the birds chirping.
This is a great way to relax in nature and enjoy creation with the Creator. As you take your stroll, take some time to just praise the Lord for His wondrous works.
Do you know that song “All Things Bright and Beautiful”?
All things bright and beautiful,
all creatures great and small,
all things wise and wonderful,
the Lord God made them all.
There is a verse in the song that makes reference to the fact that the Lord has given us eyes to see His creation.
He gave us eyes to see them,
and lips that we might tell
how great is God Almighty,
who has made all things well
As you notice the things around you, give God thanks for your eyes and your other sense organs that help you to bask in the beauty of nature.
This is also a perfect time to thank Him for making you so wonderfully.
Key point about prayer walk
You can also take the time to pour out your heart to God and remember to listen.
Listening is so important because during those quiet times, God can give revelation, correction and guidance.
Some time ago, I decided to go for a prayer walk around a football field. There was so much on my mind and I just needed to talk to the Lord.
As I took the prayer walk, the Lord gave me so much revelation and that helped me to have the right perspective.
So I highly encourage you to listen to the Lord as you take your prayer walk.
2) Play worship music while doing the chores
The next way to spend more time with God is to play worship music while doing the chores.
Worship music helps you to take your mind off yourself and focus on God.
The Bible tells us that God inhabits the praises of his people and wherever His presence is, there is fullness of joy.
But thou art holy, O thou that inhabitest the praises of Israel.
– Psalm 22:3 (ERV)
You will show me the path of life; In Your presence is fullness of joy; At Your right hand are pleasures forevermore.
– Psalm 16:11 (NKJV)
So the next time you are cooking, doing the laundry, washing the dishes or sweeping; play some worship music and praise the Lord as you go along.
3) Listen to the audio Bible
The next way to spend more time with God is to listen to the audio Bible.
If you have the dramatised version that can make it even more interesting because of the sound effects as well as the different voices that are used for each character.
Remember the Bible is the word of God so when you’re listening to the Bible you are really listening to what God has to say to you.
Consequently, this is a great way to spend time with God.
A lot of times when we pray, we’re doing all the talking but if you listen to the Bible being read then you’ll hear what God has to say.
Sometimes the answers you’re looking for, they’re already in the written word (the Bible).
You can also get a specific answer (or a Rhema word) while listening to the written word being read.
You can listen to the audio Bible:
- During your lunch break
- While having a meal
- During your commute to school or church
- While doing the chores
You can find an app for the audio Bible by searching:
- Google Play Store
- Online for a website using a search engine like Google, Bing or Yahoo
- YouTube for videos
4) Listen to a sermon or devotional on your way to work or school
The next way to spend more time with God is to listen to a sermon or a devotional on your way to work or school.
The length of your commute will help you to know whether you should listen to a sermon or devotional.
If you have a short commute then you may prefer a devotional.
But if you have to deal with traffic or if you live far away from school or work then you may prefer to listen to a sermon.
Listening to sermons and devotionals is an excellent way to spend time with God because they expound on the Word.
Therefore they help you to have a greater understanding and to apply the Word so you can be a doer of the Word and not just a hearer.
Another great thing about some of these sermons and devotionals is that they often include testimonies that can really strengthen your faith in God.
5) Go on a date with God
The final way to spend more time with God is to go on a date with Him.
This way will require some dedicated time. You can get started by setting a date, a time and getting all dressed up.
Then you can go out to a place of your choice. This could be:
- A restaurant
- Your backyard
- A special room in your house
- The beach
- A park
During that date, you can choose to:
- Read the Bible
- Study the Bible
- Pray out loud
- Prayer journal
The last time I went on a date with God, I went to a restaurant and I carried my journal so I prayed journaled.
I also went on a prayer walk on the beach after the meal because the restaurant was by the seaside.
So you can try going on a date with the Lord and come back to this blog post and let me know how it went. Or you can message me on Instagram @rejoicingwithpurpose
